Indian Air Force invites applications from UNMARRIED MALE INDIAN CITIZENS (citizens of
Nepal are also eligible) for Selection Test in June 2014 to join as Airmen in Group ‘X’
(Technical)Trades
.
THE SELECTION TEST IS NOT FOR SELECTION AS COMMISSIONED OFFICERS /PILOTS / NAVIGATORS.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
2. Educational Qualification (a) Passed Intermediate/ 10+2 / Equivalent Examination with
Mathematics, Physics and English , with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English
.
OR
(b) Three year Diploma Course in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile / Computer Science / Instrumentation Technology / Information Technology)
from a Government recognised Polytechnic Institute with 50% marks in overall aggregate a
nd 50% marks in English in Diploma Course or in Intermediate / Matriculation, if English is not a subject in Diploma Course
.
NOTE-1: Exact aggregate percentage of marks upto first place of decimal for all subjects as mentioned in the Marks Sheet of Intermediate / 10+2 / equivalent or in Diploma Course. (For example, 49.9% should NOT be rounded off to 50%).
3.Date of Birth Block
.
(a) Candidate should be born between 01 FEBRUARY 1994 to 30 NOVEMBER 1997
(both days inclusive).
(b) Upper age limit on date of enrolment is 21 years.
4. President, Central Airmen Selection Board reserves the right to shortlist the applications on the basis of available vacancies and number of eligible applicants by cut off percentage.
5. MEDICAL STANDARDS
(a) General Medical Standards for Group 'X'(Technical)Trades  are as follows:- (i) Height: Minimum acceptable height is 152.5 cms .
(ii) Chest: Minimum range of expansion: 5 cm (iii) Weight: Proportionate to height and age.
(iv) Corneal Surgery (PRK/LASIK) is not acceptable.
(v) Hearing:
Candidate should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
(vi) Dental: Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum 14 dental points.
(vii) Health: Candidate should be free from medical or surgical deformity. He should be free from all communicable diseases and skin ailments. Candidate must be physically and mentally
FIT to perform duty in any part of the world, in any climate and terrain.
(b) Colour Vision, Visual Standards and Leg Length for Group 'X'(Technical)Trades are as follows:-
NOTE-2: (a) Candidates should bring latest prescription and spectacles for corrected
vision, if used. The prescription must bear the signature, stamp and registration
number of Eye Specialist. (b) Candidates are advised to get tartar and stains removed
from teeth before appearing for the Written Test. Ears should be free of wax.
6. Candidate discharged from the Indian Air Force / Indian Navy / Indian Army or dismissed from any Government Organisation for any reason earlier is NOT TO APPLY.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
7.Tenure & Training.
Enrolment is for an initial period of 20 years extendable up to the age of 57 years. Initially candidates will be sent for a Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT) at Basic Training Institute, Belgaum (Karnataka). On successful completion of JBPT, candidates will be allocated trades and sent for trade training of specified durations. Training is however liable to be terminated at any time if the trainee fails to achieve the required standards in academics, profession, physical fitness and discipline or is found to be medically unfit.
AFTER SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF TRAINING, THE AIRMEN WILL BE DEPLOYED ON GROUND BASED JOBS
AS PER THEIR ALLOTTED TRADES (Job Specifications given in Paragraph 8 below).
ALLOTTED TRADE WILL NOT BE CHANGED ON CANDIDATE'S REQUEST / ANY GROUNDS.
8 .JOB SPECIFICATION:Group 'X' (Technical) Trades involve jobs like:
PAY & ALLOWANCES AND PERQUISITES
9. Monthly Pay . During training, a stipend of Rs. 8,550/-per month will be paid. On completion
of training the starting gross emoluments at the minimum of scale of pay including Dearness Allowance (DA) , will be Rs.23,655/-per month (approximately) which, in subsequent years, may rise up to Rs.41,743/- per month (approximately) depending upon the rank attained.
10. Allowances . In addition to the above, various allowances such as Transport Allowance,
Composite Personal Maintenance Allowance (CPMA), Leave Ration Allowance (LRA), High
Altitude Allowance, Field Area/Modified Field Area Allowance, Family Planning Allowance,
House Rent allowance (HRA) etc. are also admissible to airmen.
11.Perquisites.
Perks such as Ration, Clothing, Medical facilities, Accommodation, CSD (Canteen) facilities, Leave (60 days Annual and 30 days Casual in a Calendar Year as a privilege), Education concession to children, Recreational facilities, Free transport for school going children and Leave Travel Concession(LTC) are also provided as per the existing rules. Not withstanding the above,Group Insurance Cover of Rs.25,00,000/- at a premium of Rs.1,730/- per month, is covered for all airmen and facility of Group Housing Scheme is also extended. Other facilities by Air Force Wives Welfare Association(AFWWA) are also extended to families of airmen.

CAREER PROGRESSION AND POST RETIREMENT BENEFITS
12.Promotion.
Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Warrant Officer (MWO).
Opportunities to become a Commissioned Officer also exist for those airmen who qualify the
prescribed examinations, later during their service career.
13.Post Retirement Benefits
. Pension, Gratutity, Leave Encashment, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme(ECHS) and CSD(Canteen) facilities comprise some of the post retirement benefits. Specialised Pre-Release Courses(PRC) are also arranged to enable airmen to take up post retirement careers. In addition, airmen also get relaxation in age and reservation in Government services as Ex-servicemen.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
14. Written Test.
Admit Cards to eligible candidates will be despatched in the month of May 2014
for the examination centres listed at paragraph 19
. Candidates will be tested in English,
Physics and Mathematics
as per CBSE syllabus of AISSCE. Question papers will be
objective type and bilingual (English & Hindi),except English Paper.
Duration of Written Test
will be 60 minutes
.
CANDIDATES ARE TO QUALIFY IN EACH PAPER SEPARATELY
. Results
of the written test will be declared on the same day.
15.
Physical Fitness T
est (PFT).
All candidates who pass the written test are to undergo
Physical Fitness Test (PFT
) on the same or the next day. PFT consists of a
1.6 Km
run to
be completed within
8 minutes
. Candidates completing the PFT
in less than 7 minutes 30
seconds
will be awarded additional marks on a sliding scale. Candidates are advised to bring
their
sports shoes
and
shorts.
16.
Interview.
Candidates who have passed the written test and PFT will be interviewed.
Interview is normally conducted in English. Working knowledge of English is essential.
17.
Medical Examination
. Candidates who qualify in the interview will be medically examined.
Medical Examination will be conducted by Air Force Medical Team as per Indian Air Force
Medical Standards as applicable on the day of the Medical Examination.
GENERAL
18. General instructions for candidates are as follows: (a)
Candidates must indicate three
choices of the examination centres in order of preference. However, Central Airmen Selection
Board reserves the right to allot any centre other than those mentioned in the application.
(b)
REQUEST FOR CHANGE OF EXAMINATION CENTRE OR DATE OF SELECTION TEST
WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED.
(c) Candidates not reporting for the test on due date and time will not be accommodated on other dates / shifts.
(d) Incomplete applications will be rejected. (e) Candidates should be prepared to stay for the entire duration of the tests under their own arrangement.
No TA/DA will be admissible. (f) Upper age limit as on date of enrolment is 21 years.

19. Examination Centres. Ambala, New Delhi, Kanpur, Barrackpore, Jodhpur, Tambaram
(Chennai), Bihta (Patna), Guwahati, Secunderabad, Kochi and Bhopal.
(NOTE-3 : Examination Centres would be activated depending upon the response of candidates and testing capacity).

mentioned with the name of Institution in the certificate/marks sheet of qualifying
examination, the candidates are to produce
Domicile Certificate
issued by

only will be accepted.
(c)
Permanent Domicile of

VERIFICA
TION OF ELIGIBILITY.
Certificates / Mark Sheets and other required
documents {NCC 'A', 'B' or 'C' Certificate, Son of Air Force Personnel
Certificate (SOAFP), Domicile Certificate} etc
will be scrutinized and verified
at the examination venue prior to commencement of Written Test to ascertain the
prima-facie eligibility. Detailed verification will be carried out in respect of candidates
who pass Written Test later. Candidature of those who do not meet the laid down
educational criteria is liable to be rejected even after written test after detailed
verification of original documents.
SEQUENCE OF EXAMINA
TION
14.
WRITTEN TEST.
Written test will be objective type and question paper will be
bilingual (English & Hindi) except for English Paper. Duration of the written test will
be
45 minutes
and will be conducted in
English as per CBSE syllabus of
AISSCE
and
Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA). CANDIDATES ARE
TO QUALIFY EACH PAPER SEPERATELY.
Results of the written test will be
declared on the same day.
15.
PHYSICAL
FITNESS TEST (PFT) .
All candidates who pass the written test are to
undergo

medical standards for recruitment as airmen by medical officers of the Armed
Forces.
Candidates declared Medically Unfit can avail the option for Appeal Medical
Board (AMB) against their Unfitness by depositing Rs. 40/- in a Government Treasury/
RBI/SBI through Military Receivable Order (MRO). The application for AMB along with
original copy of MRO, Xerox copy of Unfitness Certificate and Postal Stamp worth
Rs. 25/- affixed on a self addressed envelope are to be submitted to
1 Airmen
Selection Centre, 48 Mansfield Road, Ambala Cantt (Haryana)
for processing
within seven working days from the date of issue of Medical Certificate.
Note - 5:
Candidates are also advised to get tartar and stains removed from their
teeth before appearing for the written test. Ears should be free of wax. Candidates
should be prepared to stay for the test for four to five days under their own
arrangements. No TA/DA will be admissible.

AISL subject to medical fitness, availability of vacancies, not exceeding the age of
21 years on date of enrolment and meeting laid down eligibility criteria as and when
called for enrolment.

Perks such as Ration, Clothing, Medical Facilities, Free Accommodation,
CSD Canteen Facilities, Leave (60 days Annual and 30 days Casual leave admissible
as a priviledge), Education Concession to children, Recreational Facilities, Free
Transport for school going children and Leave Travel Concession (LTC). Not
withstanding the above, Group Insurance Cover of Rs.25,00,000/- at a premium of
Rs.1,730/- per month, is covered for all airmen and facility of Group Housing Scheme

TENURE
AND TRAINING
. Enrolment is for an initial period of 20 years extendable up
to the age of 57 years. Initially candidates will be sent for a Joint Basic Phase Training
(JBPT) at Basic Training Institute, Belgaum (Karnataka). On successful completion of
JBPT, candidates will be allocated trades and sent for Trade Training of specified
duration. Training is however liable to be terminated at any time if the trainee fails to
achieve the required standards in academics, profession, physical fitness and
discipline or is found to be medically unfit.
After successful completion of training,
the airmen will be deployed on ground based jobs as per their allotted
trades.

on the basis of the results of the Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2012 conducted by the

number of candidates finally qualified are these after SSB testing conducted by Army Head Quarters.  
5. The results of Medical examination have not been taken into account in preparing these lists. 
6. Verification of date of birth and educational qualifications of these candidates is still under process 
by the Army Headquarters.  The candidature of all these candidates are, therefore, Provisional on this 
score.  Candidates are requested to forward their certificates in original in support of Date of 
Birth/Educational qualification etc. claimed by them, along with Photostate attested copies thereof to Army 
Headquarters /Naval Headquarters /Air Headquarters, as per their first choice. 

7. In case, there is any change of address, the candidates are advised to promptly intimate directly to 
the Army Headquarter /Naval Headquarter /Air Headquarters. 
8. These results will also be available on the UPSC website at http://www.upsc.gov.in.  However,

Based on the results of the Engineering Services written Examination held by the UNION PUBLIC 
SERVICE COMMISSION in June 2012 and the interviews for Personality Test held in April – May 2013, the 
following are the lists, in order of merit, of candidates who have been recommended for appointment to various 
Services/posts in Ministries/Departments concerned: 
2. The number of candidates recommended for appointment are:  
i)        269  candidates in  Civil Engineering Group; 
ii)       169  candidates in Mechanical Engineering Group; 
iii)      103  candidates in Electrical Engineering Group; and 
iv)       94    candidates in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Group. 
A total number of 635 candidates recommended for appointments in these four lists include 312 General, 183 
Other Backward Classes, 92 Scheduled Castes and 48 Scheduled Tribes (including 46 candidates belonging 
to Physically Handicapped category). 
3.       Appointments will be made according to the number of vacancies available and keeping in view the 
amended Rules and with due consideration to the provisions contained in rule 5(b) and 16 of the rules for the 
examination relating to restrictions on the eligibility of candidates admitted to the examination under age 
concession and allotment of candidates to various services according to ranks obtained and preference of 
services expressed by them. The number of vacancies reported by the Govt. for Group ‘A’ posts to be filled in 
are as below: 
(a)   For Civil Engineering Group - 307 {164 General, 76 Other Backward Classes, 41 Scheduled Castes 
and 26 Scheduled Tribes. This figure includes 21 vacancies reserved for PH (17 for PH-1 & 04 for PH-3

Commission is maintaining a consolidated Reserve List of candidates for each group as under:

6. Union Public Service Commission has a ‘Facilitation Counter’ near Examination Hall Building in its 
Campus. Candidates may obtain any information /clarification regarding their Examination/   recruitments 
on working days between 10:00 A.M. and 05:00 P.M. in person or over Telephone Nos. 011-23385271 and 
011-23381125 from this Counter. The result will also be available on the U.P.S.C. Website i.e. 
www.upsc.gov.in. 

7. The mark sheet is expected to be available on the website www.upsc.gov.in after around fifteen days 
from the date of publication of results for a period of forty-five days. Candidates can access the mark sheet 
after keying in (i) their Roll Number and (ii) the date of birth.  Printed copy of the mark sheet can be issued to 
the candidates on a specific request received with self-addressed envelope duly affixed with postage stamps, 
within a period of thirty days.
