Recruitment to the posts of Sub-Inspector / Lady Sub-Inspector (Unarmed) in West Bengal Police 2013.

Applications are invited for the following posts in West Bengal Police :

Age : 20-27 years as on 01/01/2013.

Application Fee :   Fee of Rs. 150/- in the form of A/C payee Demand Draft  payable at Kolkata from any Nationalized Bank or IPO payable at GPO Kolkata in favour of 'West Bengal Police Recruitment Board’ (WBPRB). Candidates belonging to SC/ST category of West Bengal only are not required to pay any fee. 

Application Form   The prescribed application form with detailed Information Brochure will be available from the office of the Superintendent of Police of all districts and the office of the Commissioner of Police of all Police Commissionerates (except Kolkata) up to 16/04/2013. Application Form will be issued to the candidates on production of Bank Draft / Postal Order of Rs. 150/-  or Caste Certificate (for the candidates from SC/ ST of West Bengal only). 

How to Apply :  Duly filled up Application Form along with two photographs and copies of all certificates are to be placed in an envelope of size 34 cm X 26 cm.                    WEST BENGAL POLICE RECRUITMENT BOARD 

NOTICE INVITING APPLICATION  
FOR RECRUITMENT TO THE POSTS OF SUB-INSPECTOR/LADY SUB-INSPECTOR 
(UNARMED) IN WEST BENGAL POLICE-2013. 

1. NAME OF THE POST AND PAY SCALE:- 
Sub-Inspector of Police (Un-armed) and Lady Sub-Inspector (Un-armed) in West Bengal in 
the Pay Scale Rs. 7,100-37,600/- (i.e. Pay Band-3) + Grade Pay Rs. 3,900/-  plus other 
admissible allowances. 
2. NUMBER OF VACANCIES:- 
Sub-Inspector (Un-armed) -282  
Lady Sub-Inspector (Un-armed)-118 
There will be reservation for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B category of 
West Bengal only as per order issued by the Government of West Bengal from time to time. 
3. ELIGIBILITY:- 
a) Must be a citizen of India. 
b) AGE:- The candidates must not be less than 20 years and not more than 27 years as on 
01.01.2013 (i.e. born not earlier than 2
nd
 January, 1986 and not later than 1
st
 January, 
1993). 
Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC and ST and by 3 years for OBC candidates of 
West Bengal only. Upper age limit is also relaxable upto 35 years for departmental 
candidates of West Bengal Police having requisite qualification.  
Departmental candidates who have already appeared at the examination for 
recruitment of SIs / LSIs on 3 earlier occasions shall not be eligible. 

c) Educational Qualification:- A degree of a recognized university or its equivalent.  
d) MINIMUM PHYSICAL STANDARD:- 
i) For Male Candidates:- 
Height-1.67 mtrs. 
Weight- 51.5 Kgs 
Chest- 79 cms  with a minimum expansion of 5 cms. 
Vision-According to Health Manual. 

ii) Hill men of Darjeeling District:- 
Height-1.60 mtrs. 
Weight- 50 Kgs 
Chest- 76.20 cms  with a minimum expansion of 5 cms. 
Vision-According to Health Manual. 
iii) For Female Candidates:- 
Height-1.60 mtrs. 
Weight- 45 Kgs 
Vision-According to Health Manual. 
iv) Hill women of Darjeeling District:- 
Height-1.55 mtrs. 
Weight- 45 Kgs

4. METHOD OF RECRUITMENT:- 
Candidature of the candidates will be subject to verification of the documents submitted 
regarding their claim to eligibility at a later stage.  
Eligible candidates will be called for a Preliminary Examination to be held on General 
Studies and Arithmetic (Multiple choice objective type questions) with full marks of 200 (150 
marks in General Studies having 75 questions & 50 marks in Arithmetic having 25 
questions), the duration of examination being 1½ hours. 

FINAL EXAMINATION:- Those who qualify in the Preliminary Examination will be called for  
Final Examination. The Final Examination will consist of three papers of conventional type 
questions, namely 
a) Paper-I :- General Studies and Arithmetic of 100 marks ( 80 marks for General Studies and 
20 marks for Arithmetic) of 2 hours duration.  
b) Paper-II:- English of 50 marks of one hour duration. 
c) Paper-III:- Bengali/ Hindi / Urdu/ Nepali of 50 marks of one hour duration. 
The examination for all the above three papers will be held on the same day. 
d) Personality Test (30 Marks):- A limited number of candidates selected meritwise on the 
results of Final Examination will be called for the Personality Test. 

The Physical Measurement relating to Height, Weight and Chest of the candidates called for 
Personality Test shall be taken, at the time of the Personality Test with the help of Electronic 
Devices.  

The candidates who have taken Hindi /Urdu/ Nepali as a subject in Paper-III and selected 
for the post, shall be required to pass a departmental examination in Bengali as specified in 
the Services (Training and Examination) Rules, West Bengal during the period of probation 
for confirmation in the post. 

N.B.:-  
a) The Preliminary Examination will be a screening test for selection of candidates for 
the       Final Examination. 
b) The marks obtained by the candidates in the Preliminary Examination will not be 
counted for the purpose of determining the Final Merit List. 
c) The Final Merit List will be prepared on the basis of total marks obtained in the Final 
Examination and Personality Test. 
d) The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board shall have the discretion to fix qualifying 
marks in Preliminary Examination, each of the three papers of Final Examination, 
aggregate of three papers of the Final Examination and also for the Personality Test.  3 


5. SYLLABUS FOR EXAMINATION: 
1. (a) General Studies (Preliminary and Final Examination):- 
Questions will be set to test the General Knowledge of candidates in different spheres. 

(b) Arithmetic (Preliminary and Final Examination):- 
Questions will be set on the basis of the syllabus of Madhyamik Examination of the 
West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. 

2. English (Final Examination):- 
 Questions may be set on all or any of the following items:  
(a) Drafting of a report from   the points or material   supplied;  (b) Translation from 
Bengali/Hindi/ Urdu/ Nepali, as the case may be to English, (c) Condensing of a prose 
passage (summary/precis) (d) Correct use of words, correction of sentences, use of 
common phrases, synonyms and antonyms etc. 

3.  Bengali / Urdu / Hindi / Nepali (Final Examination):- 
 Questions may be set on all or any of the following items: 
(a) Drafting of a report from the points or material supplied; (b) Translation from English to 
Bengali /Hindi/ Urdu/ Nepali, as the case may be, (c) Condensing of a prose passage 
(summary/precis). (d) Grammar. 

6. FEE: Candidates must deposit a fee of Rs. 150/- (Rupees One Hundred Fifty) only in the 
form of A/C payee Demand Draft (payable at Kolkata) from any Nationalized Bank or IPO 
(payable at GPO Kolkata) purchased on a date after publication of the advertisement in 
favour of 'West Bengal Police Recruitment Board’ (WBPRB). It may be noted that 
Treasury Challan, Money Orders, Cheques, Cash etc. will not be accepted. No 
application will be considered unless accompanied with the requisite application fees. 
Candidates belonging to SC/ST category of West Bengal only are not required to pay 
any fee. The application form without fee of such candidates will not be accepted if the 
same is not accompanied with attested photocopy of SC/ST certificate issued by the 
competent authority of West Bengal in a prescribed format. O.B.C candidates of West 
Bengal are, however required to pay aforesaid usual fee. NO EXEMPTION OF FEE IS 
AVAILABLE TO SC/ST/OBC CANDIDATES OF "OTHER STATES" No claim for refund 
of the fee will be entertained. 

7. MEDICAL TEST AND VERIFICATION OF ANTECEDENT: 
The Medical Test and necessary verification in respect of the candidates selected for 
appointment shall be done by the Government subsequently.

8.  HOW TO APPLY:- 
The prescribed application form with detailed Information Brochure will be available from 
the office of the Superintendent of Police of all districts and the office of the Commissioner 
of Police of all Police Commissionerates (except Kolkata) from 20/03/2013 to 16/04/2013. 
Application Form will be issued to the candidates on production of Bank Draft / Postal Order 
of Rs. 150/- (One hundred fifty only) or Caste Certificate (for the candidates from Schedule 
Tribe / Scheduled Caste Community of West Bengal only). 
The candidates fulfilling the conditions regarding eligibility in respect of age, physical 
standards and educational qualification should submit prescribed Application Form duly 
filled up in English in their own handwriting along with the following documents: 
(i) Demand Draft or IPO (of Rs. 150/-), for candidates other than SC/ST of West Bengal, (ii) 
One copy of recent Passport size photograph (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm) signed by the candidate 
and pasted on the application form and two more identical extra copies of signed 
photographs (Sl. No. of the Application Form must be written on the back side of the 
photograph), (iii) Attested photocopies of admit card/certificate of Madhyamik or equivalent 
examination as proof of age,  (iv) Attested photocopies of certificate / marksheet of Degree 
(Graduation) examination, (v) Documents in support of claim for SC/ST/OBC from 
competent authority, if applicable (vi) Documents in support of proof of departmental 
candidate with NOC. 

Duly filled up Application Form along with two photographs and copies of all

should not be folded. The envelope should be properly sealed. On the top of this envelope 
please write “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF SUB-INSPECTOR (UN-ARMED) / LADY 
SUB-INSPECTOR (UN-ARMED) OF POLICE IN WEST BENGAL POLICE - 2013” On the 
right side of the envelope please write “TO THE CHAIRMAN, WEST BENGAL POLICE 
RECRUITMENT BOARD, ARAKSHA BHAVAN (PCC), SECTOR-II, BLOCK-DJ, SALT 
LAKE CITY, KOLKATA-700 091”. Application form may be deposited at the same place 
from where it was issued or can be sent directly to the Chairman, West Bengal Police 
Recruitment Board by post. On the left side of the envelope please write “From” followed 
by your name and full address. Please ensure that the application form reaches West 
Bengal Police Recruitment Board before the last date of receipt of application i.e. 
17/04/2013. The Board will not be responsible for postal delays and applications 
arriving at the respective issuing offices after the last date will not be entertained. 
9.  OTHER INFORMATIONS:- 
i)       Physically handicapped candidates shall not be eligible to apply for the post. 
ii) A candidate in service of Government / a local or statutory body / public undertaking 
must send his/her application to the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board within the 
closing date under intimation to his/ her employer. His/ her application shall be 
rejected / candidature cancelled if his/her employer does not permit him /her to apply. 
iii) Each candidate should send one Application Form. Candidature of those who submit 
more than one application will be rejected summarily. 5 

iv) Unsigned Applications / Applications signed in capital letters shall be summarily 
rejected. 
v) Candidates trying to use influence or unfair means would be disqualified from 
selection. 
vi) A candidate furnishing incorrect or false particulars or supressing material information 
will be disqualified and if appointed will be liable to dismissal from the service. 
Incomplete Applications or wrongly filled up Application or Applications received after 
due date (i.e. after 17/04/2013) will be summarily rejected. 
vii) Applications not accompanied by necessary documents will be rejected. 
viii) SC/ST/OBC candidates not belonging to the State of West Bengal shall be treated as 
General Candidates.  
ix)  Xerox copy of original Application Form will not be accepted.  
x) Application Forms received in torn condition will be rejected. 
xi) The candidates shall produce original testimonial at the time of Personality Test. 
xii)  Attested copies of all certificates / testimonials have to be submitted along with the 
Application Form (do not send original certificates with the application). 
xiii) No TA / DA will be allowed to the candidates for their journey to attend test / 
interview. They will appear for the selection tests at their own expenditure and risk.  
xiv) The decision of the selection board on all matters relating to eligibility, place, date, 
mode of selection, acceptance or rejection will be final and binding on the candidates.  
xv) The candidate selected for appointment to the post shall be required to undergo a 
course of training to be specified by the Government in accordance with the Police 
Regulations. 
xvi) A deduction of 10% of the full marks will be made from the total marks secured in a 
particular paper by a candidate if he/ she discloses his/ her identity by writing his/her 
name, roll no. or putting any identifying marks inside the answer script of that paper. 
xvii) All communications to the candidates will be made at their noted PRESENT 
ADDRESS.
